Preparation for Exam 

There is no special prep for the Clinical Trial brain scans.

 

 

Patient Check-in

The patient is required to fill out necessary paperwork and consent form for the test.

​​The Beta Brain Scan

The patient is injected with a radioactive isotope called Florbetapir (F18).   After the injection via IV, the patient will sit 40 - 45 minutes to allow the tracer to distribute throughout the body. 

​

​​PET/CT Beta Brain Scan

The patient is instructed to remove any earrings, glasses, hairpins, etc. The patient is positioned on the table for the scan of the head. The scan time will be 20 minutes. After the scan, the patient is released and able to resume normal diet and activities without restrictions (other than no holding children for 12 hours).

​The Tau Brain Scan

The patient is injected with a radioactive isotope called Flortaucipir (F18).

After the injection via IV, the patient will sit approximately 65 minutes to allow the tracer to distribute throughout the body.

​

 

 

PET/CT  Tau Brain Scan

The patient will remove any earrings, glasses, hairpins, etc. The

patient is positioned on the table for the head scan. The scan time will be

30 minutes. Ater the scan, the patient is released and able to resume normal diet and activities without restrictions (other than no holding children for 12 hours).
